In early 1983, after almost thirty years of service, the Sediczjan Department of Defence decided to start working on a completely new design to replace the substandard P-series of weapons with a completely new weapon system. The ŠW1A1 rifle (Sediczj: Šturmowoj Wyntojki 7,3 1A1) was the result of two years of design, development and testing. Firing the same 7.3mm cartridge from a rotating bolt, the rifle is considerably more comfortable to shoot and carry. The use of stamped metal construction compared to the milled construction of the P1.01 considerably reduces weight, and a solid wooden stock akin to that on the LSW helps to make the weapon a lot more comfortable to shoot and aim.
